MONDAY: (11/7):

Hygiene Drive: The Kindergarten class is in charge of this month’s service learning project. We will be collecting hygiene items for the Westside Thanksgiving Drive. We are collecting new bars of soap, combs, toothbrushes, toothpastes, deodorants, and shampoo. We will continue collecting these items until November 18.

In 1982, members of the Westside Vineyard Church began inspiring others to serve the ever-increasing number of homeless on the Westside by providing them with a Thanksgiving Dinner. For the first seven years, St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Santa Monica hosted this unique Thanksgiving event. Since 1989, due to increasing numbers of destitute men, women and children and the need for more space to provide more than just food, the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium became the site to house the event. On Thanksgiving Day, we look forward to hosting over 3,000 guests for a complete Thanksgiving Day dinner at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Our guests come from all walks of life, from homeless individuals and working poor families to college students unable to get home for the holiday. Last year, this inter-faith group made up of individuals from various churches, schools, organizations, and corporations hosted one of the largest Thanksgiving Day events in Southern California with more than 2,100 meals served by over 1,200 volunteers. 200 blankets were distributed. Hundreds of children’s immunizations were given. 280 haircuts were given. Cedars Sinai and UCLA doctors and nurses provided free consultation. Hygiene kits and literally two tons of clothing were distributed.
