Candy grams:Student council will be selling Halloween candy grams for 25 cents. The students can buy a gram for 25 cents and have it sent to anyone (student or teacher) in the school. If you child would like to buy grams, please send a list of names with the money. We will also have a buddy activity with 5th grade.

PreK/Kindergarten Open House: We will be having our Pre Kindergarten and Kindergarten Open House for prospective families. It will be from 10:30-11:30am. Both Ms. Hellstrom and I will do a short presentation about our programs and answer questions for prospective parents.  Following the presentation there will be tours of the Kindergarten and Pre-K rooms.

Music: Mr. Joseph has put together a special music activity for the students. The students will be singing “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” with their buddy classes and Mr. Joseph will be conducting the Star Wars theme song with a special treat. It will be at 2:30pm in O’Ryan hall.

Art: We will be having our first Gateway to Art class. We will begin first thing in the morning. More information can be found here: Gateway to Art

Our first project is based on Notan, the Japanese meaning of lightness and darkness.  One of the most recognizable symbols of this concept is the “Yin and Yang”, which simply, yet effectively demonstrates the use of contrast to create an image.

Electives: The PreK and Kindergarten students will be starting their second round of electives. They will have the opportunity to try a new elective for the next 5 weeks.

Grandparents day: We will be celebrating Grandparents day on Tuesday, November 22nd. We will be serving a continental breakfast and have activities in the classroom. We would like to send postcards to all the students’ grandparents, inviting them to this event. Please email me at or send it in your child’s folder. If your child’s grandparent lives too far, please send an address for someone you would like to represent the grandparent.

Class celebration:  We will be having a small party on Halloween for the students between the costume parade and Saints Day parade.  If you would like to contribute financially to the party, please send money with your child and I will pass it along to Missy.  Parents get 1 hour of volunteer service for every $10 spent.

Treats: Students are welcome to bring in treats or goody bags for their classmates. We have 26 students in the class. Please be sure to have enough for each child. We will be passing out the treats at the end of the day on October 31st (before the Saint parade). I DO not allow the students to eat any of the sweets in school and must wait until they get home.

Saints Day assignments:  The students who were in PreK at Good Shepherd will get the same saint assignments as last year.  Those who did not attend our PreK, please let me know if you have a specific saint you would like your child to be (ex: middle name, baptism name).

Saints Day costumes:  To get ideas for the Saints Day costumes, please take a look at older Halloween posts.  If you look on the right side of this page, you will see a section labeled “Archive”.  Click the drop down button and choose October or November (I may have posted the pictures after Halloween) of any year.
