Dear Parents,

I am excited to start the new school year with your child. We are working on getting into routines that will help make our days in Kindergarten fun and filled with learning. Every Monday (or first day of the week) I will post a Kinder News with information about our work in class, homework, general information, and other important notices. On Friday’s (or the last day of the week) look for a file folder with your child’s name on it in his/her folder. Your child’s completed worksheets from the week will be sent home in the file folder. Children are making mistakes at this age. I don’t correct letters and numbers written backward, uneven shaped letters unless a child asks me and I feel he/she is ready. At this stage of learning; perfection is not the goal. I want each child to try his/her best and see progress in his/her work. Some work will be saved to help me keep track of student’s progress.

Mat Money

Students will be taking a nap/rest after lunch. The mat is a personal item and when the school year is over your child will take his/her mat home. There is a $40 cost for the mat that is not included in the tuition. This cost will also include the expenses for the graduation (it will come sooner than we think). Please send the money in an envelope marked with your child’s name by Friday, September 10.

We will begin our phonics lesson this week.  We will be starting with the letter “Mm” (we are not going in alphabetical order).  Students are invited to bring in items from home that begin with the letter “Mm” (ex: picture of mom, toy mouse, magazine).   A phonics worksheet will be sent home daily.

Students will need to bring a folder to school everyday. I have placed labels on the folders to help parents distinguish what needs to be returned to school and what will stay at home. Students will be assigned homework daily (not all homework will need to be returned).

We are eating a snack every day before recess at 9:45am. The snack could be a fruit, a yogurt, or something that will be nourishing and help your child make it to lunchtime. Cookies, doughnuts, chips, candies, fruit roll-ups, etc. are not allowed for snack or lunch. Please choose something healthy. It is also important that your child eats a good breakfast at home before coming to school.

Reading Calendar

Every month your child will take a calendar home. Please fill in the days that your child has been reading or been read to and the title of the book. They will also make a book report at the end of the month. They will need to draw a picture of their favorite book and write the title. Please return the calendar and book report at the end of the month. I will be sending home the September calendar Monday.

Keep checking the blog for updates and information!

After school pick up:

Students who are not picked up by 3:15 will be signed into after care. The after care program offers a “drop in” service at a charge.

The first week of school has been amazing! All the students are doing a great job listening, following directions and having fun!
