Back to School Night

This Thursday, September 17th is our Back to School night. It will begin at 6:00pm in the second grade classroom with a presentation of the SmartBoard. We will then proceed into the Kindergarten classroom. I look forward to meeting and speaking with all the parents!

Phonics:

This week we will be learning about the letter “Ll” and “Nn”. We review the sounds of the letters and how to write the letters properly. Students are encouraged to bring items from home that begin with the letter we are learning. This week we will be learning about the letter “Ll” on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We will be learning about the letter “Nn” on Thursday and Friday.

Sprit Shirts:

Last week I sent home an order form for spirit shirts. If you were unable to order them during the summer when Norm’s was at our school, please use this form to order the shirts as soon as possible. The students will be able to wear their shirts on most Fridays with jeans.

Pizza lunch:

If you ordered from the pizza fundraiser, it will begin this week on Monday, September 14.

Homework

MATH: Review or complete the math sheet your child is bringing home daily.

PHONICS: Complete the “Ll” minibook by Friday.

The “Nn” minibook will be sent home on Thursday and will be due on Monday, September 21st.

Follow these instructions.

Title Page– Write your name, color lower-, and uppercase letter.

Page 2– Look at the different fonts the letter is written.

Page 3– Cut out lower-and uppercase letters from magazines and make a collage.

Page 4– First trace the letters with your finger (follow the arrows as indicated on the additional sheet about handwriting sent home today). Then try your

best to trace and write with a pencil. Parents, this does not need to be perfect, don’t erase! Your child will have many opportunities to develop his/her

handwriting throughout this school year.

Pages 5-7– Look at the picture, say the word and listen to the beginning sound. Draw more pictures beginning with the letter, if you wish.

Page 8– Write words that begin with the letter sound. You can use the words in the book.

READING: Don’t forget to mark the Reading Calendar that is being sent home today. Please read with your child for 10 minutes or let your child read to you.
