Catholic Schools Week: We began Catholic Schools Week on Sunday and all the students who participated in the masses did a great job. I have posted the schedule for the week on the blog and it can also be found on the school website. I will also be sending home a copy of the schedule. Here are some highlights for each day:

Monday-community members will come and speak to the classes

Tuesday-no homework, free dress, buddy activity in the afternoon

Wednesday-coffee/pastries available in the morning for parents, Open House at school from 5:30-7:00

Thursday-students will wear red, white and blue clothes, parade at the end of the day with classroom flags (the students will create a class flag)

Friday-our teacher for the day will be Jasmine Matta (winner of the Thanksgiving fundraiser)

Morning Assembly: The morning assembly will be at 10am everyday this week. However, the students will continue to wait outside and line up when the bell rings at 7:55 and be brought into class.

Volunteer Hours: Each family is expected to complete 40 hours of volunteer service to the school during the school year. Some parents have been able to give their time by helping with the yard duty at lunch time. However, since this is not possible for all parents, there are other options to fulfill your hours. Parents can and have done some work for me at home. Parents are also able to make monetary donations for volunteer hours ($10 = 1 hour). For example, parents can donate a Lakeshore gift card and receive volunteer hours. This card will then be used to purchase games, books, or activities for the classroom.

Don’t forget this Friday is Spirit Friday. Students are to wear blue or black jeans and their Kindergarten spirit shirts. Boys must wear their school shoes and girls must wear white tennis shoes.

Word Group: This week will be a review of the word groups we have learned so far; -at, ad, an.

BOOK ENDS – Service Learning Project for January

Do you have books at your house that your children no longer read or want? Book Ends, a nonprofit organization, is about Kids Helping Kids. BookEnds’ recycles children’s books through student-run book drives and places them in schools and youth organizations in need of books. Last year, we were able to collect 1,300 books! Donated books will be kept in our class until the end of the month. We will then give it to the fourth grade class who will deliver the books to a school in need.

BRING! Please send from home items that begin with the letter “Qq” on Mon-Wed and letter “Oo” on Thur-Fri. In class we’ll look at the items, say the name of them, and listen to the beginning sound.
