Dear Parents,

I am excited to start the new school year with your child. We are working on getting into routines that will help make our days in Kindergarten fun and filled with learning. Every Monday (or first day of the week) I post a Kinder News with information about our work in class, homework, general information, and other important notices. On Friday’s (or the last day of the week) look for a file folder with your child’s name on it in his/her folder. Your child’s completed worksheets from the week will be sent home in the file folder. Children are making mistakes at this age. I don’t correct letters and numbers written backward, uneven shaped letters unless a child asks me and I feel he/she is ready. At this stage of learning; perfection is not the goal. I want each child to try his/her best and see progress in his/her work. Some work will be saved to help me keep track of student’s progress.

Mat Money

Students will be taking a nap/rest after lunch. The mat is a personal item and when the school year is over your child will take his/her mat home. There is a $50 cost for the mat that is not included in the tuition. This cost will also include the expenses for the graduation (it will come sooner than we think). Please send the money in an envelope marked with your child’s name by Friday, September 12.

We are eating a snack every day before recess around 10 am. The snack could be a fruit, a yogurt, or something that will be nourishing and help your child make it to lunchtime. Cookies, doughnuts, chips, candies, fruit roll-ups, etc. are not allowed for snack or lunch. Please choose something healthy. It is also important that your child eats a good breakfast at home before coming to school.

Reading Calendar

Every month your child will take a calendar home. Please fill in the days that your child has been reading or been read to and the title of the book. They will also make a book report at the end of the month. They will need to draw a picture of their favorite book and write the title. Please return the calendar and book report at the end of the month. Thank you!

Keep checking the blog for updates and information.

MATH: Review or complete the math sheet your child is bringing home daily.

BRING! Please send items from home that begin letters Cc (tomorrow). In class we’ll look at the items, say the name, and listen to the beginning sound.

LANGUAGE: Complete the “C-book” by Friday. Follow these instructions.

Title Page– Write your name, color lower-, and uppercase letter.

Page 2– Look at the different fonts the letter is written.

Page 3– Cut out lower-and uppercase Cc from magazines and make a collage.

Page 4– First trace the letters with your finger. Then try your best to trace and write with a pencil. Parents, this does not need to be perfect, don’t erase! Your child will have many opportunities to develop his/her

handwriting throughout this school year.

Pages 5-7– Look at the picture, say the word and listen to the beginning sound. Draw more pictures beginning with c, if you wish.

Page 8– Write words that begin with a c sound. You can use the words in the book.

READING: Don’t forget to mark the Reading Calendar that is being sent home today. Please read with your child for 10 minutes or let your child read to you. Fill in the names of the books read on the back. On October 1, your child

needs to bring the calendar back to school and a calendar for October will be given.
